Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Sunday ruled out a run for president in 2028.

Ms. Haley, who also served as governor of South Carolina, ran for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, warning primary voters that Mr. Trump would be too divisive to win the general election.

During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Ms. Haley was asked if she would be back in the mix in the next presidential race. “I will not,” she said.

Ms. Haley also refused to say whether Vice President J.D. Vance should be the party’s nominee in 2028.

“I think it’s too soon to tell. I think that primaries are healthy,” she said. “I think a year is a lifetime in politics. I think we will be having a different conversation a year from now. Who’s going to be in that? I have no idea.”

Mr. Vance is widely considered an early favorite to win the Republican presidential nomination. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is also considered a strong contender.

Meanwhile, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who finished second behind Mr. Trump in the 2016 Republican primary, is laying the groundwork for another run.

The Democratic field of contenders is also taking shape. Former Vice President Kamala Harris, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear appeared at Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network convention in New York City in recent days.
