Television shows used to get better the longer they went on. Star Trek: The Next Generation, for instance, had a notoriously poor first season before becoming one of the best television shows of all time. Shows like Seinfeld really didn’t find their footing until the writers got comfortable in the second season.
Most modern streaming programming delivers only a great first season, before devolving into unbearable dreck. It’s not an accident. They’re doing it on purpose.
They’re doing it on purpose because the people behind your favorite show have something they care about more than delivering quality entertainment. They’re not making the show to create something good. They’re making it to get inside your head.
